Rest matters – even when you get home. It’s important that a relative or friend takes you home and that you have someone to care for you.
Before you leave, find out whether you require a follow-up appointment with your surgeon. If you have any problems before that appointment, contact your doctor, surgeon or Boulcott immediately.
Have someone take you home by car or taxi. You must not drive yourself or use public transport. Once home, someone should stay with you for 24 hours and during that time you should rest and avoid alcohol, cigarettes and drugs (except those prescribed by your doctor).
Your doctor and nurse will discuss with you arrangements for leaving Boulcott, which is usually by 11am. Special arrangements can be made for a later time although this may involve a late discharge fee.
