Rated recently against over 50 other DHBs and private hospitals around the country using Australasian standards, Boulcott Hospital has received four times more Extensive Achievement ratings than any of the others surveyed.
The maximum EAs given to any other hospital at the time of the June Accreditation survey, conducted against the Evaluation and Quality Improvement Programme (EQuIP) by Telarc Quality Health was three; Boulcott received twelve.
The latest result is a matter of great pride for Boulcott, as we have worked hard in our quest for excellence throughout the whole organisation. This was the first time the EQuIP programme had been implemented into Boulcott Hospital, and it was found to be a superior set of standards which have taken Boulcott to the next level in excellence.
“We at Boulcott believe we provide a very high quality of service. Our facilities are second to none. But it is the quality of care within the hospital that makes the real difference,” says Boulcott Hospital CEO Dr Richard Grenfell. “Our quality of care sets the platform for the rest of our performance of excellence.” To maintain these high standards of excellence, continual scrutiny is necessary, he says.
The hospital is audited regularly by the Ministry of Health under the Health and Disability Service Standards before recertification is granted and it was in tandem with this the EQuIP evaluation was undertaken. The excellent result means the Ministry has renewed Boulcott’s Certification for four years, a year more than the norm. Crucially too, there were no recommendations for improvement made against the HDS Standards by the independent surveyors.
“The EQuIP results underpin our ongoing and very positive patient satisfaction surveys and feedback from GPs,” says Dr Grenfell, “but it is the extraordinarily good staff who drive our top results. Excellence starts from the staff and goes all the way to the management – there is a strong culture of striving for excellence right through every facet of our organisation.”
“While we are thrilled to have achieved this latest result, we are not going to rest on our laurels,” says Dr Grenfell.
“At Boulcott Hospital we believe it is important to expose ourselves to the world to ensure we maintain our standards of excellence and we will continue to strive to offer our patients the very best service humanly possible.”
