Fertility Services now available at Boulcott

Fertility Associates’ new clinic at Boulcott Hospital offers Specialist Fertility and Gynaecological Consultations, as well as a full range of reproductive medicine surgery from laparoscopic tubal surgery, endometriosis surgery, hysteroscopic surgery, and reversal of male and female sterilizations.

Dr Andrew Murray, Medical Director of Fertility Associates is looking froward to consulting from Boulcott Hospital’s Specialist Centre. “I’m very excited about the new clinic at Boulcott Hospital. The state-of-the-art “High Definition” operating theatre with the laparoscopic equipment means I have the best technology at my fingertips. This allows me to deliver the best possible result for our patients.” He will be performing the sometimes complicated reproductive medicine surgery that can be required as part of fertility treatment.

Fertility patients in the greater Wellington area now have access to new ultrasound technology which gives the clearest picture yet of reproductive organs in the form of a portable ultrasound computer. The new ultrasound is part of Fertility Associates@Boulcott Hospital in Lower Hutt. Further, the new technology will enable a patient’s images to be sent digitally as well as being able to be used anywhere. In addition to the state-of-the-art medical facilities, high quality staff and equipment to deliver optimal results, the location gives increased accessibility for patients in the Hutt Valey, Wairarapa and Kapiti areas.

In time, Fertility Associates@Boulcott Hospital plans to offer not only diagnostic ultrasound scanning (which is part of the standard consultation with a fertility specialist) but also treatment scanning; that is scans that track the response to fertility drugs. This means that patients will no longer have to travel to Wellington for the procedure. A new, portable ultrasound machine with the latest in software and technology giving crystal clear definition to images has recently been purchased. Images can be stored onto a memory stick allowing for easy transfer of files and can also provide patients with several ways of reviewing their images. Plans are also being progressed to have patient education and nursing consultations at Fertility Associates@Boulcott Hospital.

To protect patient confidentiality and ensure discretion (that is not always available with a phone call) and ensure the efficient delivery of important information, Fertility Associates now uses texting as the primary method of conveying appointment times and treatment instructions to patients. It has the added advantage of giving the patient an electronic record of instructions, for example, what dose of drug to proceed with and what time to take it.

Employing technology to ensure an optimal experience for patients has seen Fertility Associates Wellington go paperless. Staff can access information anywhere, anytime, from any Fertility Associates Wellington location. For patients this means that whoever they speak to at Fertility Associates, the staff member has instant access to their treatment details (something that is not possible with paper files), it has also enabled more timely and efficient reviews of treatment outcomes. This allows an individualised response to each patient’s requirements. Eventually Dr Murray would like to move to a web-based system that allows patients to directly access their own information.
