New ’state of the art’ operating theatre

Boulcott Hospital’s third operating theatre is now completed and in use. The Stryker i-Suite theatre is the first of its kind in the Greater Wellington region. ‘i’ stands for innovation, information and integration.

Boulcott Hospital has shown its commitment to providing patients with the highest level of patient care available using state of the art medical technology.

The theatre bristles with electronic technology, integrating equipment at the operating table with the hospital’s computer system. Surgical staff can call up x-ray and other images (including those from cameras used during ‘keyhole’ surgical procedures) and display them on a number of screens inside the theatre.

Images from the theatre can also be transmitted to remote sites for training and other purposes. Ultimately, this sort of technology can allow a surgeon at the operating table to communicate and exchange images and data with a specialist – perhaps in another part of the country or overseas – during an operation.
