Andrew was first registered as a specialist orthopaedic surgeon in 1977 when he was appointed to the Hutt Hospital. He trained in the British Orthopaedic Association's programme at Oxford for two years. He also worked for one year as a Research Registrar, and then as a Senior Registrar at Bath, a city with a large population of rheumatoid patients who provided an opportunity for gaining much experience in reconstruction and rheumatoid arthritis.

Andrew has a continuing interest and expertise in rheumatoid reconstruction and has concentrated on total joint replacement of the knee and hip. He has also developed over the last 20 years an interest in foot and ankle surgery where both assessment and treatment has become quite a substantial part of his practice.
