Francis Hall completed his training in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery in New Zealand in 1998. He then spent three and a half years overseas gaining a wealth of experience in all aspects of head and neck surgery. Six months were spent with Professor Chris O’Brien at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney as his head and neck fellow.

Twelve months were spent with Mr Bernie Lyons and Professor Andrew Sizeland at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne doing head and neck and skull base surgery. He was the first Australasian to be selected as an American Head and Neck Society Fellow and spent two years with Dr’s Patrick Gullane, Ralph Gilbert and Jeremy Freeman in Toronto, Canada. While there he gained further experience in head and neck surgery, skull base surgery, thyroid and parathyroid surgery and microvascular free tissue transfer. While in Canada he passed the examinations of the American Board of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery and presented several papers at international meetings. He has a major interest in tumours of the head and neck and a growing number of publications in this field.

He returned to NZ in August 2003. He is a consultant head and neck, ENT surgeon at Hutt Hospital and works in private practice at Boulcott Hospital. His interests within general ENT include sinus conditions and paediatric ENT.
